Back after being gone for awhile

Ok, so I've been gone for awhile. I've been doing a big overhaul of my pc and figuring out some things for little side businesses. So, today I figure I'll go into detail about what I've been doing. Sounds fun right? WRONG.

What have I been doing to overhaul my pc? Well, it's official folks, no more Windows or Apple OS X(never had that anyways) on my computer. I've completely switched to a GNU/Linux distro, in other words, Ubuntu. All I have to say about that is that I love it. It's not quite as simple as, "hmmm I'm going to install this program...click, click, click." but it's not difficult at all. The only prerequisites I've found is you can't be a retard, such as myself. But I still find ways around it. Moving on....

Ubuntu is extremely user friendly, it just doesn't do everything for you, like Windows does. I've even managed to get Steam and SC2 installed in a program called "Wine" coupled with "PlayOnLinux". I haven't quite seen the full capability of Wine in Ubuntu, but you can get most Windows apps to work in it.

If you want to see what a Linux distribution looks like or is capable of, Google "Ubuntu conky" or "Arch conky". Conky is what you can use to spruce up your Desktop. It's the equivalent of RainMeter in Windows.
- Side note: RainMeter is also a wicked program for Windows or Apple. Check it out, it might take a bit of tweaking, but if you're like me you'll want to edit and toy with the script anyways. You can rice the hell out of your desktop. It's a lot easier than conky and a lot more user friendly. Also, if you like to rice out the desktop check out anything Stardock makes. They make great desktop customization programs.-
Anyways, I'll go more into computer stuff in the next few weeks (this is mostly going to be poorly written and my transition from a total noob, to a somewhat noob).

Tomorrow is Halloween and everyone knows what that means, acceptably dressed sluts! Just kidding, this means party at my house! It feels like I have so much to do so little time. I feel as if this is going to be the end of my rant tonight, I shall be back later. Have questions about my Ubuntu transition? Feel free to ask.

Goodnight world,

Wow....I did not know this.

Today I learned that broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts are all man made. This is pretty shocking news to me, and I'm not sure why. Over the years I have read that most fruits and vegetables are genetically modified, but broccoli is completely man made. Kind of crazy if you ask me.

Here is pretty much the whole article on this crazy broccoli thing.

"You’re walking through the forest when you come across some wild broccoli on the forest floor, except wait, wild broccoli doesn’t exist!

Broccoli is a human invention. It was bred out of the wild kale plant by carefully selecting for the traits we wanted and discarding those we didn’t.

Start with a wild kale. It has small flower buds and only flowers every other year. In a controlled environment, cause it to reproduces itself many times, and when by chance you get one plant that has larger, tastier buds, throw away the others and start reproducing that one. Next batch you might, again by chance, get a plant with not only larger buds but one that produces them more often. Save that one and keep going.

In selecting and reinforcing the traits we like, human beings have taken a wild kale and bred a new kind of plant altogether, a broccoli plant.

That’s also true of cauliflower, kohlrabi, brussels sprouts, even the yummy form of cabbage you buy in the store. They are all bred out of wild kale, and didn’t occur in nature before."

US Senate trying to pass bill for "Internet Kill Switch"

Well isn't isn't this just dandy. "Land of the free" you say? Yet, you're trying to secretly pass a bill that restricts our freedoms? This seems awfully like the move of an oppressive regime. The only reason they are putting this in place is so during a "national emergency" they can prevent us from moving information. Dirt move.

Link to one of the many articles I got information from:
http://libertypulse.com/article/sneaky-senate-trying-to-slip-internet-kill-switch-past-us/

“It’s hard to get a measure like cybersecurity legislation passed on its own,” Senator Thomas Carper (D-Del.) told GovInfoSecurity.com. Carper is chairman of the Senate subcommittee with cybersecurity oversight.

Under instructions from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Senators Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) are working to combine their separate bills into one that can be attached to another piece of legislation, such as the Defense Authorization Act.

While proponents say an Internet Kill Switch is needed to protect the nation’s power, water and banking grids, what it really is is a way to control the flow of information. Experts have said that the nation’s power and water grids are not connected directly to the Internet.

Lieberman let slip his real thoughts on the Internet Kill Switch in an interview with CNN’s Candy Crowley when he said, “Right now China — the government — can disconnect parts of its Internet in a case of war. We need to have the ability to do that, too.”

Final Fantasy XIV to have open beta. Postponed for North Americans.

Well it looks like the new FF MMORPG is going to have an open beta for about a month. Time to sign up for a Square Enix account. But, unfortunately for North Americans I have bad news:

"FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test Postponed

FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, which is scheduled to begin at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010, will be postponed due to a confirmation of critical bugs. New schedule will be release at a later date.

Along with the postponement of FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, the issuing of registration code for FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test will be postponed as well. With the download of client software's installer, it will be suspended at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

Makes me sad T_T

Digg users being "sold"

When you have a social media site that requires no subscription, where does the income for that site come from? The obvious answers is sponsors and their ads. The users use the site, they see the ads(views), and some click on them. This generates revenue for that site and that's how many sites work. So, when you sell a site you arn't necessarily selling physical content. You are selling the users. This is the case for Digg.

Unfortunately Digg has completely sold out. There used to be a time where there were just ads, now even the content submitted is from the sponsors(which is a big no no!). This is absolutely outrageous in my opinion and I say welcome to a real site(Reddit.com) ex-diggers. I hope future social media sites learn from this insanity.

"America Loves Gangsters"

So I was just listening to "CunningLynguists - America Loves Gangsters". This song got me thinking, what is Americas obsession with gangsters? Has this really become the dream of adolescent Americans? Why would someone want to take up a life of crime? It seems rather absurd to me, but I guess with the downfall of the economy this is what happens. People are driven to make money no matter the consequence.

This unfortunately looks like a rather sad reality for those who grew up on the lower end of the income scale. But, even nowadays we are seeing people who are in the higher income bracket strive for this dream. Being "hard" and acting stupid have quite the momentum for being the "popular" thing now.
Here's a link to the song for everyone. And YES, I'm too lazy to embed and write HTML right now. Deal with it

I have discovered blogging!

There has been many moments I've looked at these blog accounts, and thought "Who would want to write a blog?". For the longest time my answer to that was definitely not me. I stood behind that for a long time.  I guess times change and so do I. You'll never survive this digital jungle if you don't move on with the times. I hope enjoy the ride from here on out.

Note: This blog is not for the squeamish.
